Procedure time 15-30 minutes

COLONOSCOPY (Lower GI)

What to expect before, during & after

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE: For an endoscopy, you will need to fast for at least 6–8 hours beforehand. For a colonoscopy, bowel preparation is required the day before — our team will give you specific instructions and a preparation kit at the time of booking. Please inform us of any medications you are currently taking.
DURING THE PROCEDURE: A mild sedative is typically given to help you relax. The procedure itself is performed by an experienced gastroenterologist. You may feel mild pressure or bloating, but significant pain is uncommon. Our team will monitor you throughout the procedure and ensure your comfort.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE: Most patients rest for 30–60 minutes at our facility before being discharged. You may feel mild bloating or a sore throat (for endoscopy), which resolves within a few hours. A responsible adult should accompany you if sedation has been given. Most patients return to normal activities the same day or the next morning.

NOTE: If a polyp is found during colonoscopy, it can often be removed during the same procedure — saving you a second visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

An Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin, flexible camera to check the upper part of the digestive system including the food pipe, stomach and small intestine. It is used to find conditions such as stomach ulcers, acid reflux, bleeding and inflammation.

A Colonoscopy is a test that uses a long, flexible tube with a camera on the end to view the inside of the large intestine (colon). It may help to find colon cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, unexplained bleeding and other digestive problems early.

Endoscopy looks at the upper digestive tract (food pipe, stomach, small intestine). Colonoscopy looks at the lower digestive tract (large intestine and rectum). Both are minimally invasive procedures conducted by expert gastroenterologists.

These procedures help detect stomach ulcers, colon cancer, polyps, acid reflux (GERD), inflammatory bowel disease, internal bleeding, digestive blockages and other gastrointestinal conditions accurately and early.

Gastroenterologists, general surgeons, general physicians and oncologists refer these procedures when evaluating digestive symptoms like persistent stomach pain, blood in stools, unexplained weight loss or chronic acidity.

Scans World provides Colonoscopy and Endoscopy services in Aminjikarai, Nandanam (Chamiers Road) and Nanganallur branches with minimally invasive techniques and rapid recovery times with expert care.

A thin bendable tube with a camera (endoscope) is carefully inserted through the mouth into the digestive tract. This is done by an experienced specialist and is intended to be as comfortable and minimally invasive as possible.

For Endoscopy, fasting for minimum 6-8 hours prior to procedure is required. For Colonoscopy, bowel preparation (clearing out the colon) is needed the day before. Scans World will give detailed preparation instructions at the time of booking.

An Endoscopy usually takes 15 to 30 minutes and a Colonoscopy takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the extent of the examination. Most patients can return to normal activities the same day and recover quickly.

You can book online through their website, WhatsApp at +91 96269 59999 or call directly. Walk-ins are also welcome at all three branches Aminjikarai, Nandanam and Nanganallur.
